1. NPS
For many industries and services the use of flame retardant cloth in uniforms and other apparel is vital in order to ensure the maximum safety for their personnel. The class of materials that gives the best performance is the “aramids”. These materials are, however, more difficult to colour than traditional cloth, such as cotton or synthetics like nylon or polyester; particularly since acid dyes will not adhere to these materials. This has resulted in a limited choice of colours and patterns in the marketplace and leads to limits on the potential usage of the materials.
NPS has succeeded in coating and curing its LoVOC® adhesion promoters onto aramid cloths and subsequently dyeing these with acid dyes. In application engineering work with clients, black, brown and dark green acid dyes have all been successfully dyed onto samples of both Nomex® and Kermel® materials. Colour retention has been excellent, even after caustic washes and multiple machine washing cycles.
